Guitar with steel strings more as it is brighter (+ “hifi”) and Playing with chords I chose the guitar with steel strings (Pt2 was anĮxception, I needed a bit brighter sound, so I decided to go with the To play nylon strings when ever I was fingering the guitar. Theįlip side of the coin is that I have gazillions of tracks to edit.Ĭhose pretty loose picks (but not TOO loose). I also play the same part with severalĭifferent moods and power to make sure I have everything I need. Needed + couple of extra takes to be sure that there are enough spare Is that I create a loop and play the same part as many times as I cannotĬoncentrate on all the small details and emotions as I have to hit 8 out of 9 of the songs had 1 to 6 tracks of Pure pleasure to work with both of these talentedĪcoustic guitars (both nylon and steel) bouzouki, banjo and mandolin

The piano, I used 1928 legacy piano by 8DIO. And as these vocalsĪre played on top of each other it will sound perfect (I hope). Vocals as our own singer will do the top vocals. In that specific song she will be singing the bottom I chose Netta for the vocal part because she has a very warm, prettyĪnd soft voice. Small characters (keypress and other natural sounds of an accordion). Neumann TLM 103 was at the front of the instrument recording all the MKH 50 mics from about 30cm distance gave the width to the sounds as Line signal has the “close mic sound”, stereo pair of Sennheiser Plus the line signal (as it was an electric accordion after all). Netta's accordion was recorded with 3 mics Of piano and Netta did vocals for one of our songs and all theĪccordions of the album. Both girls from Ensiferum, Emmi and Netta, (with two hands) or accordion (with any hands), I recorded some more

My advice: try to use something else than iPad for recordings. That's why I decided NOT to use it with the clean vox. Cubasis itself has some irritating bugs that created some challenges during the process. We already broke one Focusrite, so can't tell how reliable of a back up this will be. First of all, it works with iPad and PC, secondly as it works with PC, we can use it as a backup with our current backing tracks system. We chose this Focusrite interface for it's multiple ways of use. For monitoring Mikko uses Vic Firth Isolation Headphones so he can listen to the music pretty loud without any leakage to the mic. As I don't own a laptop that I could bring with me, I decided to to work with Cubasis + iPad + Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 + Shure SM7b combo. As he is so fucking loud, little noise coming from background does not affect at all to the sound. For screaming parts we recorded Mikko at our dear rehearsals place. As Crimfall has 2 singers the vocal recordings are divided in two sessions as well. The songs already sound way better than the demos, but when adding the vocal layer, they really come alive. One of the best moments during the studio process are the vocals.
